BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Monroe Aug. 14 for the fourth of five stops in the Hoosier Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“It’s going to be typical summertime fishing in Indiana,” said FLW Tour pro Shad Schenck of Waynetown, Ind. “The lake is back down to summer pool so I think the tournament will be won in the main lake; that’s where the big fish will be anyway. Anglers will want to use 10-inch worms in 12 to 16 feet of water.

“If we go into a dry period, the flow side of the lake is going to be where it’s at; anglers will need to be versatile, using spinnerbaits, crankbaits and topwater baits.”

Heavy rains this season have led to pull-downs on Monroe; if water continues to be pulled, main-lake fishing will win the tournament. Schenck believes it will take about 18 to 20 pounds to win on Aug. 14.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Cutright Ramp located at 4850 South State Road 446 in Bloomington, Ind. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
