FLW and Rapala are giving away a Jacob Wheeler-signed X-Rap Prop, the winning bait from the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Lanier. Wheeler, who at 21 years old became the youngest pro to claim the Cup, threw the X-Rap Prop when targeting bass that were patrolling bluegill beds.
The X-Rap Prop marks the X-Rap family’s entrance into the prop-bait category. The stainless steel props on the front and back create considerable noise and splash – churning, spitting and gurgling with the slightest tug. Whether fishing a snap and pause, straight or shredding retrieve, the counter-rotating blades ensure a straight track back to the boat. When the bait is paused, the tail drops down, which leads to a better hook-up ratio.
Long casts were crucial to Wheeler’s success as the Lanier bass proved timid in the August heat. Executed perfectly, the Forrest Wood Cup champion would stealthily approach a cluster of bluegill beds, make the perfect cast, and then imitate a struggling gill with a few quick twitches – getting the bass to race up and attack it.
The X-Rap Prop giveaway begins Friday, Sept. 28 as part of FLW’s weekly Clean Out the Clutter contest on Facebook. The giveaway ends Wednesday, Oct. 3 at noon and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter. To be eligible, contestants must become a fan of the FLW Fishing page and like Rapala USA. Good luck and good fishing from FLW and Rapala.
