With at least three of the leaders struggling to back up their day-one bags and a strong wind whipping the north end of the lake, the day-two leaderboard of the Rayovac FLW Series event on Lake Okeechobee presented by Power-Pole seems primed for a shakeup. Only six anglers brought in bags weighing more than 20 pounds on day one, and that has left the door open for almost anyone.

With the effects of the wind not so heavy at the south end of the lake, the anglers’ water should remain in good condition there. Still, the morning was slow again, just like the first day. The morning was also slightly cooler, and that might have helped put a damper on the action as pros wait for more fish to transition from the main lake into spawning areas near the lake’s rim.

The north side of the lake is offering the anglers a much more challenging task. There are waves upward of 2 feet in places, and that has pushed a lot of mud into previously productive water. In some places, even with good clarity, the wind is simply making the fishing much more difficult. Because of that, we could very well see some big bags come from off-the-wall locations or techniques that might not usually reign supreme on the Big O.

Despite the obstacles, we’re still likely to see a dramatic weigh-in with some big fish. The afternoon sun is rapidly warming the air and water, and any cast on Okeechobee can be a game-changer.
