Things couldn’t have set up any better for the final day of competition on Lake Havasu for the Rayovac FLW Series Western Division event presented by Mercury. Waves of fish are pushing toward the bank and are looking for an easy meal. Like it has been all week, the morning bite was strong. The majority of anglers we were able to cover on the water were catching respectable specimens of both largemouth and smallmouth bass.
We followed tournament leader Joe Uribe Jr. shortly after the top 10 launched this morning, and he had a solid limit by 9 o’clock. He is now running water he hasn’t been to since practice, looking for some big upgrades. If he finds them, Uribe could walk away with this thing. His kicker alone makes it worth watching FLW Live this afternoon at 3 p.m. MT.
Second-place pro Josh Bertrand also capitalized on the morning bite and has a few quality fish in the box, so don't rule him out yet. The rest of the field spread out, making big runs north and south, so we weren’t able to catch up with all of them on the water. However, we have heard local reports from other on-the-water observers that the rest of the top 10 has been experiencing the same success as our leaders.
The wind has been blowing steady – maybe 10 miles per hour – since takeoff, and it looks to stay that way. The afternoon bite picked up yesterday in the breeze, and this afternoon should be no different.
