The Channing Crowder Bass Fishing Tournament has been set for Jan. 30, 2016 at Everglades Holiday Park. Crowder – a retired Miami Dolphins football player – has teamed up with Walmart FLW Tour pro Mike Surman to host the event to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.

“The Everglades is just a great fishery,” says Surman. “The first year of the event two years ago, it took 32 pounds to win. Last year I think it took around 29 pounds. There are just so many fish in the Everglades that it makes it fun for everybody.”

Numerous FLW Tour pros have participated in the tournament, including David Dudley, Clark Wendlandt, Glenn Browne, Glenn Chappelear and Darrel Robertson.

The event features a team tournament format with up to three anglers allowed per boat. The field is comprised of pros, who are paired with sponsors of the event paying a $2,500 entry fee, as well as local angler teams, which provides the latter a great opportunity to compete against some of the best. The team with the heaviest five-fish limit takes home the $10,000 top prize.

“One of the best things about this tournament is all of the great sponsors that are involved,” continues Surman. “Walmart, Yo-Zuri and countless others make this whole thing possible. We have$20,000 in total prize money given away at this tournament. The best part is that all of the money raised goes back to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.”

For those who don’t compete, there’s still an opportunity to donate and participate. Following the weigh-in there will be a party at “Alligator” Ron Bergeron’s Green Glades West Ranch featuring the awards presentations, food and beverages, live music, and a live and silent auction.

“It’s a great time to come and hang out with FLW pros as well as some Miami Dolphins players,” says Surman.

Tickets for the evening festivities cost $50 for adults and $20 for children under 21.
