We’re not saying that the California Delta is fishing up to “Delta standards” just yet, but the action has certainly picked up today thanks to stabilizing weather and beautiful sunshine.
Everyone that FLW’s On The Water team visited with this morning was catching a lot of fish. From 6-inchers to 6-pounders, the bass were chomping as pros were finally able to shed their rainsuits and enjoy the kind of atmosphere that this legendary fishery is known for.
Day-one leader Matt Shura had a good morning for numbers, but he struggled to find a big bite. Ken Mah in second place was on a better pace. He has a 7-pounder in the livewell. Bobby Barrack was working on upgrading a small limit.
Of the dozen or so pros that were observed, techniques ran the gamut, but reaction baits were most popular. Buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, frogs, crankbaits and jointed rat topwaters were among the most popular lure choices. On the slower side were Senkos and various creature baits – pretty standard tackle here.
Yesterday’s slow fishing left the door open for anyone in the top 50 or so to make a run at today’s top-10 cut, so we’re likely to see a shakeup in the standings this afternoon.
Weigh-in begins at 2 p.m. PT. Watch it on FLW Live at FLWFishing.com.
