Kyle Dieling, 27, of Elmhurst, Ill., a founding member of the Murray State University bass team in the National Guard FLW Outdoors College Fishing circuit, was killed in a one-vehicle accident Saturday morning, Jan. 1. A member of the Elmhurst Police Department, Dieling apparently lost control of his pickup when he crossed a patch of ice on the highway. He ran off the road and struck a guard rail. The truck then flipped over and came to rest on its side.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 o’clock as Dieling was on his way to join friends for an afternoon of goose hunting. Dieling was pronounced dead of his injuries at 11:10 a.m. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, 426 N. West Ave. in Elmhurst.

Dieling began his tournament career in the Bass Fishing League in 1998, and competed in 14 events through 2007. He fished the LBL and Great Lakes Divisions.

The Murray State University Bass Club will be represented at his funeral by current members.
