Horton wins $5,101 in Bama Division on Logan Martin

CROPWELL, Ala. – Jamie Horton of Centerville, Ala., out-fished 156 competitors Saturday to earn $5,101 and 50 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail’s Bama Division event on Logan Martin.

Horton caught five largemouth bass weighing 13 pounds, 2 ounces during the one-day event to top George Crain of Pell City, Ala., who finished with a five-bass catch of 11-8 worth $2,550. Horton caught his limit casting a crawfish colored crankbait around shallow wood cover.

Horace Alred of Cedartown, Ga., took third place and collected $1,275 with five bass weighing 10-14. Ronnie Young of Carrollton, Ga., placed fourth and earned $1,105 with four bass weighing 10-6, while John Macintosh of Woodstock, Ga., placed fifth and earned $1,020 with five bass weighing 10-4.

Chase Ross of Huntsville, Ala., won the Abu Garcia Big Bass Award in the Boater Division and collected $780 with a 6-pound, 3-ounce largemouth that he caught on a white spinnerbait while fishing docks in the north end of the lake.

First place in the Co-Angler Division and $2,583 went to Johnny Price Sr. of Brookwood, Ala., who topped 156 competitors with five largemouth bass weighing 8-15. Second place in the Co-Angler Division and $1,291 went to Jeff Helms of Garden City, Ala., with two bass weighing 6-9, while Skeeter Collins of Vinemont, Ala., took third place and $646 with three bass weighing 6-7.

Helms won the co-angler Abu Garcia Big Bass Award of $390 with a 5-pound, 9-ounce bass that he caught on a green worm while fishing ledges in the main lake.

The boater with the most CITGO Challenge points after the division’s season finale, a two-day Super Tournament Sept. 23-24 on Neely Henry Lake, will be declared the Divisional Points Champion and awarded $1,000. The co-angler amassing the most points by the end of the season will receive $500.
