MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Jerry Simmons of Donalsonville, Ga., out-fished 112 competitors this weekend to earn more than $7,000 and 100 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail’s Bulldog Division season finale – a two-day Super Tournament on Lake Sinclair.
Simmons caught four bass weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces on the second and final day of competition using a Carolina-rigged finesse worm in June-bug color.
Leroy Davis, 53, of Albany, Ga., won the Abu Garcia Big Bass Award in the Boater Division and collected $1,120 with a 5-pound, 15-ounce bass that he caught on a green pumpkin-colored worm.
First place in the Co-Angler Division and more than $3,500 went to Chad Wise, 23, of Dothan, Ala., who topped 112 competitors with a day-two catch of four bass weighing 4 pounds, 12 ounces.
Brian Holcomb, 39, of Telico Plains, Tenn., won the co-angler Abu Garcia Big Bass Award of $560 with a 4-pound, 8-ounce bass that he caught on a watermelon-and chartreuse-colored lizard.
The trail’s championship event, the Red Man All-American, will award $100,000 to the winning boater and $50,000 to the winning co-angler. Overall, more than $5.7 million could be awarded in 2000 based on full fields in each of the series’ 119 events nationwide.
