Photo contest now features two age categories for participants.
ELMSFORD, NY – Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. is sponsoring its “Fish, Photograph, Release” (FPR) Program for a second year to educate kids about the fun of fishing, while focusing on preserving the environment. Fujifilm will promote this program extensively in partnership with Hooked on Fishing International (HOFI) and Wal-Mart.
Fujifilm introduced this program last year in conjunction with the Wal-Mart Kids All-American Fishing Derby Program to encourage families to fish, take a photograph of the catch and then release it back into the water. As part of the program, kids are invited to submit photos of their catches along with a statement of 50 words or less on why they like to fish and why the fish should be returned to the water. This year, the contest introduces two age categories. Any kids participating in one of the more than 1,500 derbies held throughout the U.S. will have the chance to enter their photo and essay in either the 5 to 10 year old group or the 11 to 16 year old group. Information and entry forms can be found at Fujifilm.com/FPR, Kids-Fishing.com and FLWOutdoors.com. In addition, the HOFI Web site, Kids-Fishing.com will post a “Photo of the Day” starting August 2 to August 31, giving a young photographer additional recognition.
“Fujifilm saw such a tremendous success with the FPR Program last year that we are excited to team up with Hooked on Fishing to get kids involved and excited for this upcoming derby season,” said Cindy Bogan, National Account Manager, Fuji Photo Film, U.S.A., Inc. “The `Fish, Photograph, Release’ Program demonstrates Fujifilm’s commitment and support of fishing while also incorporating the fun of photography.”
“We are proud to have Fujifilm as a partner for a second year to support the fishing derbies for kids and the `Fish, Photograph, Release Program’,” said Gordon Holland, Founder, Hooked on Fishing International. “Learning different ways to preserve the environment is fun for kids and lets them feel that they are making a difference.”
“Wal-Mart is excited to work on this program with Fujifilm and pleased to have them on board as a sponsor of our fishing derbies,” said Mike McFadden, Vice President, Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart. “Not only does Fujifilm understand how important it is for preservation of the waters, but it also knows how to encourage fun and education.”
The majority of the derbies are held from June 1 through June 9, 2002, corresponding with National Fishing and Boating Week. At the conclusion of the derbies, Fujifilm will present awards to all of the winners. The top three winners in both categories will receive U.S. Savings Bonds of $1,000, $500, and $250, respectively. In addition, 30 winners will receive a Fujicolor QuickSnap one-time-use camera and an FPR logoed T-shirt.
