GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – Mike Terry of Obion, Tenn., topped 72 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League competitors Saturday on Kentucky Lake with five bass weighing 17 pounds, 12 ounces. The catch earned him $2,531 and 200 points in the Boater Division.

Terry caught his limit on a deep-diving blue and chartreuse crankbait. The catch topped second-place boater Ray Barga of Gilbertsville, Ky., by 2 ounces. Barga finished the one-day tournament with a five-bass catch weighing 17 pounds, 10 ounces worth $1,266 and also received a $500 bonus from Ranger Boats as the highest-finishing participant in the Ranger Cup incentive program.

Jeremy Conrad of New Johnsonville, Tenn. (five bass, 15 pounds, 1 ounce, $759); James Jacobus of Johnstown, Ohio (five bass, 14 pounds, 15 ounces, $607); and Erwin Cole of Murfreesboro, Tenn., (five bass, 13 pounds, 15 ounces, $557) rounded out the top five boaters.

Steve Mull of Lebanon, Tenn., earned boater big bass honors and $360 with a 5-pound, 11-ounce bass that he caught by flipping a 10-inch red worm in about 3 feet of water. He finished in 28th place overall thanks to the one bass.

The catch, which was 7 ounces heavier than the Boater Division winner, enabled Rounds to surpass second-place co-angler Kyle Frey of Hendersonville, Tenn., by 8 pounds, 11 ounces. Rounds caught his limit using a 12-inch red and green flake worm in 10 to 12 feet of water. Frey finished with a four-bass catch weighing 9 pounds, 8 ounces worth $589.

Chad Lannom of Mt. Juliet, Tenn. (three bass, 8 pounds, 15 ounces, $353); Robert Holton of Murfreesboro, Tenn. (three bass, 8 pounds, 13 ounces, $283); and Jon Lessard of Tullahoma, Tenn., (two bass, 8 pounds, 10 ounces, $259) rounded out the top five co-anglers. Lessard also earned big bass honors and $168 in his division with a 6-pound, 7-ounce bass that he caught using a chartreuse buzzbait.

Overall, 11 five-bass limits were caught during the tournament.

The Wal-Mart BFL will visit Old Hickory Lake for the Music City Division’s season finale, a two-day Super Tournament, Sept. 21-22. The boater with the most points after the Super Tournament will be declared the Yamaha “Be the Best” Points Leader and awarded $1,000. The co-angler amassing the most points by the end of the season will receive $500.

The top 30 Music City Division boaters and co-anglers will advance to regional competition presented by BC Powder Oct. 29-Nov. 2 on Wheeler Lake near Rogersville, Ala., where they will go up against top competitors from the Bulldog, LBL and Shenandoah divisions for a shot at qualifying for the Wal-Mart BFL All-American – one of the most lucrative post-season tournaments in competitive angling.

2002 BFL awards could reach $7 million based on full fields.
