RICHMOND, Va. – Some of FLW Outdoors’ most successful professional anglers will offer tournament-winning tips and techniques Saturday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7 when they host the Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors Fishing and Automotive Clinic prior to the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship in Richmond. The clinics are presented by BFGoodrich Tires, Castrol, EverStart Batteries, 7 UP, Snickers and Fujifilm.
Saturday’s clinic will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 7430 Bell Creek Road in Mechanicsville. On Sunday, the clinic will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 7901 Brook Road in Richmond. The free clinics are designed for people of all ages and skill levels, and participants are invited to ask the pros questions about fishing and automotive topics. The event precedes the FLW Tour Championship presented by Castrol, scheduled to take place Sept. 10-13 on the James River.
The first hour of the clinic will take place in the store parking lot and focus on specific techniques the anglers use, including tips on tying knots, casting and selecting tackle. During the second hour, anglers will move into the store, where they will answer questions, pose for photos and sign autographs. Participants can also enter a drawing for goodie bags filled with sponsor products, shirts and hats. The drawing will be held before the tournament weigh-in Sept. 13 at the Richmond Convention Center.
Presenting anglers include Team Castrol members Bobby Curtis of Siloam Springs, Ark., and David Dudley of Manteo, N.C.; Team Snickers member John Sappington of Wyandotte, Okla.; and Team Land O’Lakes member Carl Svebek of Siloam Springs, Ark. Dudley is a past winner of the lucrative Ranger M1 tournament, having taken home the top prize of $700,000 cash in 2002. Sappington won the 2002 Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship, which landed him a check for $260,000 cash.
“Getting involved in the communities hosting the Wal-Mart FLW Tour has been a great way for sponsors to give back and to thank the anglers and tournament fans who have been loyal consumers of our products for many years,” said Castrol representative Tracy Curtis. “Fishing is a wonderful family activity that has no boundaries on who can participate. We are dedicated to helping anglers of all skill levels learn new tricks of the trade and promoting the sport to a new generation of anglers.”
