ROCKWALL, Texas – After a four-event regular season, the top 50 pros and 50 co-anglers from year-end Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail points standings will compete at Lake Ray Hubbard Oct. 18-19 in a $195,000 championship event. The tournament, presented by Frito Lay, will award the winning pro as much as $70,000 in cash and prizes, including a fully rigged Ranger 519VS Comanche bass boat.

Lake Ray Hubbard should prove to be a prolific playing ground, as the lake recently produced a record-breaking 14-pounder and followed that up six weeks later with a 13-pounder. According to TTT pro Gary Paris of Emory, Hubbard’s big bass will be feeding on shad and getting ready for winter in shallower parts of the lake. He says that flipping chartreuse and white jigs in shallow grass beds and running buzzbaits in similar colors over the lake’s plentiful hydrilla will be the most productive techniques. Fishing firetiger crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps around rocks could also be a pattern to watch.

Anglers will take off both mornings from Chandler’s Landing Marina in Rockwall at 7 a.m. Daily weigh-ins will be held at 782 Interstate 30 in Rockwall beginning at 4 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend daily takeoffs and weigh-ins.

The entire field will compete for two days, with the winner determined by the heaviest two-day weight. Pros supply the boats, fish from the front deck against other pros and control boat movement. Co-anglers fish from the back deck against other co-anglers. Anglers earned a championship berth by finishing in the top 50 in year-end points standings; every angler who receives weight credit in a tournament earns points, which determine angler standings.

The winning pro will receive a guaranteed cash award of $15,000 plus a 519VS Ranger bass boat valued at $35,000. If the winning pro is the registered owner of a Ranger Boat that was purchased new from a Ranger dealer, he will receive a $20,000 bonus from Ranger Boats for a top pro award of $70,000. The winning co-angler is guaranteed a top award of $5,000 plus a new 195 Ranger valued at $30,000. If he is a registered owner of a Ranger boat, the winning co-angler will receive a $5,000 bonus for a top co-angler award of $40,000.

Additionally, the highest-finishing participant in the Ranger Cup incentive program will earn a $5,000 bonus, and Garmin will award $1,000 to the winning pro if his boat is equipped with a fixed-mount Garmin Fishfinder or combination GPS/sounder.
