Fresh off an FLW Outdoors Magazine cover story and three consecutive top-10 finishes in the first three Wal-Mart FLW Tour events of his career, rookie Bobby Lane of Lakeland, Fla., can now put another check in his plus column – Hook Set Award winner. Lane is currently ranked No. 6 in the FLW Tour points standings and 14th in the EverStart Series Southeast Division. On top of all this success in 2005, fishing fans liked Lane’s style when it came to landing a Ouachita River lunker, so much so he trounced the other Hook Set contenders.

FLWOutdoors.com’s voting visitors were able to choose from video footage of three pro anglers’ hook sets as filmed by FSN’s camera crews for the “Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors” TV show during the March 9-12 Ouachita tournament. Though Lane placed ninth at this Louisiana event, compared to the No. 2 and 3 slots occupied by the other two featured Hook Set anglers, online fishing fans declared him the winner. Lane will receive a $1,000 Wal-Mart shopping card for the award, which, along with the contest, is presented by Eagle Claw.

Lane’s Hook Set Award footage, which was seen on “Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors” and FLWOutdoors.com, garnered nearly three times more votes than either of the other hook sets. Second-place Ouachita finisher Matt Herren’s hook set edged out third-place finisher Jason Kilpatrick’s hook set by a handful of votes.

FSN provides FLWOutdoors.com with video footage of three of the best hook sets from each FLW Tour event throughout the season. The hook sets are seen on FSN’s “Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors” program, which airs Sundays at 11 a.m. Eastern, and are then viewable at FLWOutdoors.com. After voting has closed for a given contest, the winner will be announced on television and through this Web site.

The Hook Set Award contest is free and open to anyone 21 years of age or older who wants to go online to vote for their favorite footage. Use this article to link to the contest or access it through FLWOutdoors.com’s home page.
