GALVESTON, Texas – Brennan Head and Brandon Garrison both of Lafayette, La., caught a two-day total of four redfish weighing 31 pounds, 2 ounces to win the Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series Western Division event in Galveston and $25,000 cash.

With calm conditions and bright sunny skies, Head and Garrison made a 75-mile run to their fishing area again on Saturday. “We had a cameraman in the boat with us today and had to push pole in water less than 8-inches deep,” Garrison said. “It was a challenge, but it was worth it.”

The team threw Red Ripper spoons and Terminator in-line spinnerbaits on 8-pound or 10-pound-test braided line. “We just found some ponds that looked a lot like home and were fortunate that the right fish were in there,” Head said.

Rounding out the top five teams are Tim Redden of Houston and Tim Clancey of Adkins (four redfish, 28 pounds, 11 ounces, $8,200); David Nesloney Sr. and David Nesloney Jr. both of Rockport (four redfish, 28 pounds, $6,324); Bill Blodgett of Dripping Springs, and Todd Cearley of Driftwood (four redfish, 26 pounds, 3 ounces, $4,324); and Ralph Frazier of Dickinson, and Charles Parodoski of Sugar Land (four redfish, 26 pounds, $3,050).

Anglers caught a total of 105 redfish weighing 535 pounds, 6 ounces on Saturday.

FLW Redfish Series qualifying tournaments are two-day events. The entire field competes Friday and Saturday, and the winning team is determined Saturday based on the heaviest two-day accumulated weight.

The final regular-season FLW Redfish Series Western Division event will be held Sept. 23-24 in Venice, La.

The FLW Redfish Series consists of two divisions – East and West. Each division is comprised of four events with a $200,000 purse for each event. The top 100 teams – 50 from each division after four qualifying events – will qualify for the three-day, no-entry-fee $300,000 Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series Championship to be held in Mobile, Ala., Oct. 27-29. The championship winner will take home as much as $100,000.
