MINNEAPOLIS – Tune in Sunday, July 9 to “FLW Outdoors” on FSN for the $200,000 Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series event presented by Evinrude in Titusville, Fla. The third Eastern Division event of the $1.9 million FLW Redfish Series season concludes with the winning team claiming a cash prize of $50,000.

The “FLW Outdoors” saltwater series is a reality-format show told from the anglers’ perspective. Each week the top-five finalists are followed from takeoff to weigh-in, allowing the audience to feel the anglers’ nerves, listen to their strategy and learn from their mistakes. The stories evolve and the suspense grows throughout the one-hour show until the final weigh-in results are announced.

Going into the final day of competition, the redfish team of Jim Armstrong of Chuluota, Fla., and Dennis Cox of Edgewater, Fla., share the same leading weight – 24 pounds, 1 ounce – with the team of Dallas Dudley of St. Cloud, Fla., and Shawn Harrell of Bartow, Fla. Although they both have the same two-day total, technically, Armstrong and Cox lead based on rules for a tie-breaker which call for the team with the heaviest one-day weight to advance in the event of a tie.

In this case, Armstrong and Cox caught the heaviest one-day weight with a pair of redfish on day two tipping the scales at 12 pounds, 10 ounces. Fishing the south end of Mosquito Lagoon, the leaders are targeting flats in less than two feet of water. Amazingly, Armstrong and Cox found their primary spot by accident when Armstrong, by happenstance, hooked up with a nice trout that was suddenly attacked by a school of ravaging reds. To catch their fish, the pair are throwing 4-inch Berkley Gulp! Shrimp in natural, glow and new penny color rigged on 5/0 worm hooks.

FSN also follows Dudley and Harrell, who still have one final day to try and catch Armstrong and Cox. The two are one of very few teams not trying their luck in Mosquito Lagoon. Instead, Dudley and Harrell have located a school of reds in the Indian River, which they have all to themselves. They realize there are likely more fish in Mosquito Lagoon but the pressure is so intense they felt they would better served somewhere else. The plan has worked thus far, with the two being only a tiebreaker from the lead. The primary weapons for Dudley and Harrell are 3-inch Berkley Gulp! Shrimp tied to 1/8-ounce jigheads.

Wayne Fuller and Aaron Dill, both of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., bolstered their day-one catch of 12 pounds, 3 ounces with 11 pounds, 7 ounces on day two for a two-day total of 23 pounds, 10 ounces, to qualify for the finals in third place, just 7 ounces off the lead. With the water falling and repositioning the fish, watch as these local anglers put their knowledge to work on day three.
