MINNEAPOLIS – Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Tour actions returns to FSN Sunday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. Eastern time. The one-hour show will cover the third king mackerel tournament of the year held in Beaufort, S.C. The event concludes with the winning team claiming a cash prize of $100,000.

The “FLW Outdoors” saltwater series is a reality-format show told from the anglers’ perspective. Each week the top-five finalists are followed from takeoff to weigh-in, allowing the audience to feel the anglers’ nerves, listen to their strategy and learn from their mistakes. The stories evolve and the suspense grows throughout the show until the final weigh-in results are announced.

FLW Kingfish Tour qualifying tournaments are three-day events. The entire field competes on day one and day two and the top five teams compete on day three. The winning team is determined based on the heaviest kingfish from day one or day two plus the heaviest kingfish from day three.

Day two was a big day off the South Carolina coast for kingfish action. Calmer, warmer conditions prevailed, which helped the anglers immensely. Two teams managed to catch fish over 41 pounds, and three top teams from day one were bumped out of the top five to qualify for the final round. One of the teams doing the bumping was Second Mortgage, captained by Larry McDuffie of Pittsboro, N.C. They hauled in the heaviest fish of the week – a 41-pound, 8-ounce king – and took over first place. Fishing an area called Gray’s Reef about 50 miles south of Beaufort, Second Mortgage caught the big kingfish just an hour before the scales opened. The leading mackerel hit a blue runner on the top line. This is Second Mortgage’s first Kingfish Tour top-10 and another successful day of fishing could mean $100,000.

Second Mortgage wasn’t the only team to capitalize on Gray’s Reef. The other 41-pounder came from Team Relentless, which also endured a rough ride to reach the fruitful spot. Relentless caught their fish on the downrigger with a blue runner. Last year in Florida at the first Kingfish Tour event of the season, Relentless vaulted to the top on day two but ultimately failed to land a fish in the finals and finished fourth. Tune in Sunday to see if the Jacksonville Beach, Fla., team can avenge last season’s disappointment and claim victory.

FSN also follows Team M&M’s of Hampstead, N.C. After catching a 39-pound, 6-ounce kingfish on day one, the team failed to upgrade their fish on day two and trail the leader by over 2 pounds coming into Team Wild Ride / M&M's caught this 12-pound, 15-ounce king and finished fourth with a final total of 52-5.the finals. After winning the second Kingfish Tour event of the season in Fort Pierce, Fla., Capt. Randy Griffin Jr. and his crew are looking for their second consecutive $100,000 win.
