Baird wins TBF Central Divisional

LAKE ANDES, S.D. – Jason Baird of Gypsum, Kansas, won The Bass Federation 2008 Central Divisional Championship on Lake Francis Case Friday with a three-day total of 14 bass weighing 22 pounds even. For his victory, Baird earned a $500 Wal-Mart gift card as the Castrol Maximum Performer.

Baird opened the tournament Wednesday with five bass weighing 9 pounds. He added another five bass weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce Thursday before catching four bass weighing 5-15 Friday to seal the win.

The top-finishing angler from each 12-person state team will advance to the 2009 TBF National Championship presented by the National Guard as a boater. Those advancing as boaters are Zachary King of Clarksville, Ark. (13 bass, 20-1); Marion Halbersma of Ozark, Mo. (11 bass, 19-1); Terry Kleeman of Joplin, Mo. (13 bass, 18-14); Norman Foskey of Gulfport, Miss. (14 bass, 18-9); Troy Montgomery of Granbury, Texas (13 bass, 18-1); Bob Walla of Cersco, Neb. (11 bass, 15-14); and Joshua Moore of Grand Cane, La. (nine bass, 13-2).

The No. 2 competitor from each state team will advance to the National Championship as a co-angler. Those advancing as co-anglers are Jim Towers of Star City, Ark., (13 bass, 19-4); Robert Cartlidge of Ponca City, Okla. (10 bass, 17-13); Jody Pfannenstiel of Salina, Kansas (12 bass, 17-13); Clint Farris of Crowley, Texas, (11 bass, 16-11); Greg Cooper of Monroe City, Mo., (10 bass, 16-5); Jared Knuth of Ceresco, Neb., (11 bass, 15-9); Jerry Necaise of Long Beach, Miss., (eight bass, 14-9); and Shane Morris of Bastrop, La. (eight bass, 10-10).

Arkansas was the top-finishing team in this week’s divisional, taking home the traveling cup and $2,750 cash award for bringing in 107 bass, weighing 156 pounds, 12 ounces over the three-day competition. Taking home $1,750 for second place in team competition was Oklahoma, with 104 bass, weighing 153 pounds, 13 ounces. Texas brought in 101 bass weighing 146 pounds, 2 ounces to claim the No. 3 spot and $1,250.

TBF National Championship anglers will compete for a share of more than $200,000 in cash and merchandise, including a $100,000 “Living the Dream” prize package that includes use of a wrapped Chevy truck and Ranger boat powered by Evinrude or Yamaha, sponsor merchandise and entry fees into the Wal-Mart FLW Tour or Wal-Mart FLW Series. The top boater and co-angler from each of the TBF’s six divisions at the National Championship will receive a berth into the $1 million BFL All-American presented by Chevy, where boaters compete for a top award of $140,000 and co-anglers cast for a top award of $70,000. The winning boater and co-angler at the TBF National Championship will also advance to the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup presented by Castrol, where pros compete for a top award of $1 million and co-anglers fish for a top award of $50,000.
