The National Guard FLW College Fishing circuit will stage its first postseason event of 2009 with the Sept. 19-21 Western Division Regional championship in Stockton, Calif. University of the Pacific will host the three-day event, where college teams will be competing on the California Delta for a top award of $50,000.
The collegiate bass anglers will take off daily at 7 a.m. Pacific time from Buckley Cove Park at 4311 Buckley Cove Way in Stockton. Weigh-ins begin at 4 p.m. daily at the University of the Pacific Aquatics Center Parking Lot in Stockton. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free to attend and open to the public.
Teams will fish for a top award of $25,000 plus a 177TR Ranger wrapped in school colors and powered by an Evinrude or Yamaha outboard.
The top five teams from each of the National Guard Regional Championships will advance to the National Guard National Championship April 10-12, 2010, in Knoxville, Tenn. The winning team at the national championship will qualify for the 2010 Forrest Wood Cup for the chance to win as much as $1 million.
The Reel Life Festival, which features the National Guard Warrior Challenge, will be held all three days of competition beginning at noon at the University of the Pacific Aquatics Center. On Friday, Sept. 18, a Battle of the Bands will be held from 2-6 p.m.
National Guard FLW College Fishing is the country’s largest tournament fishing competition for college bass clubs where college clubs compete for lucrative scholarships and prizes and a chance to compete in the 2010 Forrest Wood Cup in 2010.
Qualified teams include Arizona State University, Chico State, Fresno State, Humboldt State University, Sacramento State, San Jose State University, Sonoma State University, UC – Davis, University of Nevada – Reno, University of Oregon and Washington State.
