JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Douglas Lake March 27 for the second of five stops in the Volunteer Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.
“The end of March is my favorite time to fish Douglas because fish are moving up shallow to spawn,” said FLW Tour pro Ott Defoe of Knoxville, Tenn., who has won more than $374,000 in FLW Outdoors competition. “You can catch a lot of fish – and a lot of big ones. Fishing a Rat-L-Trap is a great way to fish back in flat pockets. They can be just loaded up, and you can catch a lot of big ones.
“I would say 15 to 17 pounds would probably win,” Defoe added. “Nearly everybody will have a limit.”
Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Mountain Cove Marina located at 1590 Dike Road in Kodak, Tenn. Takeoff is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
