IUKA, Miss. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Pickwick Lake at JP Coleman State Park for the second of five stops in the Mississippi Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“The fish are just getting ready to make their last move up into shallower water,” said FLW Tour pro Greg Pugh of Cullman, Ala., who has had two of his 27 top-10 finishes on Pickwick Lake. “Anglers will want to stay in 3 to 5 feet of water, using spinnerbaits and crankbaits.

“Some of the anglers might be surprised at the loss of grass due to the effects of high water on the lake. They will want to fish more of the rocky points, stirrups and brush piles. And, of course, anyone wanting to fish the hard current below the dam could wind up with a 25-pound stringer of smallmouths; that is always a threat on Pickwick.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at JP Coleman State Park located at 613 County Road 321 in Iuka, Miss. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
