SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville on April 24 for the third of five stops in the Choo Choo Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.
“Fish should be in full spawn,” said Chevy pro Larry Nixon of Bee Branch, Ark., who is third on the all-time money list for pro bass anglers and loves Lake Guntersville. “The big ones will be on beds or guarding beds, and you should see a lot of Carolina rigging with big lizards in about 2 to 4 feet of water.
“Anglers should be making a lot of long casts along the edges and contours. Patience is going to be key. Anglers will want to throw a slow bait, one that really makes `em mad.”
If the weather holds out, Nixon believes it will take about 27 to 32 pounds to win the event.
Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Waterfront Tackle & Grill at Goose Pond located at 417 Ed Hembree Drive in Scottsboto, Ala. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Guntersville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
