WAGONER, Okla. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Fort Gibson Lake May 8 for the second of five stops in the Okie Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“The fish should be coming off bed,” said pro Mike Todd of Norman, Okla., who is a four-year veteran of the FLW Tour. “There’s not a tremendous amount of pockets on Gibson – it’s a long river. So they should be halfway easy to catch. The males should stay shallow while the females should be a little deeper.

“Throw a spinnerbait,” Todd added. “Booyah makes a four-blade spinnerbait that mimics baitfish that just hatched out. Also throw a buzzbait for sure in dingier water and a larger Pop-r in bone, white or a bluegill pattern. Bone is an incredible color at Gibson.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Taylor Ferry Marina and Resort located at 334179 Marina Drive in Wagoner, Okla. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Fort Gibson Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Wagoner Area Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
