SHELBYVILLE, Ill. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Shelbyville May 22 for the second of five stops in the Illini Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.
“It’s going to be some tough fishing next weekend,” said FLW Tour pro Rich Lowitzki of St. Charles, Ill. “Between the heavy boat traffic and the tired postspawn fish, it’s going to make an unpredictable lake even tougher.
“The fish are going to be getting ready to move off the beds and into deeper water. I would target the drops and points and throw some topwater baits in the morning. Jerkbaits should work well in the afternoon, after the topwater bite stops. And no matter where you are, shaky heads should work.”
Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Eagle Creek State Park located at in Findlay, Ill. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Shelbyville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
