CHEBOYGAN, Mich. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Burt and Mullett lakes June 5 for the first of five stops in the Michigan Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.
“This is the perfect time of year to hit Burt-Mullett lakes,” said FLW Tour pro Art Ferguson III of St. Clair Shores, Mich., who has been fishing Michigan waters for over 30 years. “The fish are spawn to prespawn, and the gigantic smallmouth should be plentiful. It could take 25 pounds to win this thing.
“The fish are going to be shallow; anglers should key in on areas that have the right mix of weeds, rocks and sand. Twitch baits, tubes, grubs, stuff like that will work really well when targeting those spawning fish.”
Takeoff and weigh-in will be at the Aloha State Park located at 4347 3rd St. in Cheboygan, Mich. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Burt-Mullett lakes BFL tournament is being hosted by the Cheboygan Chamber of Commerce.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
