NORTH EAST, Md. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to the Chesapeake Bay June 12 for the second of five stops in the Northeast Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“Low tide is going to offer the best fishing,” said FLW Tour pro Robert Pearson of Herndon, Va., who loves the Potomac River System. “It is not hard to run the tide here if you study the tidal pattern. The fish ambush at low tide; when the water is falling is when you’ll see your best fishing.

“The deeper an angler goes in the river system, the better off he’ll be; you really want to get as far away from the salt and brackish water as you can. Early in the morning, I don’t care where you are, you should be throwing a topwater bait – buzzbait or frog – in the grass. That could be the difference in this tournament; it’s going to take about 12 pounds to win this thing.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Anchor Marina, Inc., located at 36 Iroquois Drive in North East, Md. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Chesapeake Bay BFL tournament is being hosted by the Charles County Economic Development & Tourism.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
