FINDLAY, Ill. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Shelbyville June 26 for the third of five stops in the Illini Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.
“Typically Shelbyville is hard to dial into because the fish go deep and they also stay shallow,” said FLW Tour pro Chad Morgenthaler of Coulterville, Ill. “The heavy boat traffic usually has a big impact on fishing as well. Anglers are going to have to have a lot in their arsenal to do well.
“Topwater fishing in the early morning will anchor their catch. The bass are following baitfish right now, so there will be a lot of suspended fish that should be easy to catch with Pop-Rs or spooks. After that anglers should start fishing as hard as they can around deep structures using deep-water crankbaits or Carolina rigs. Shaky-head finesse worms should also be a mainstay in their tackle boxes.”
Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Ninth Street Ramp located on Ninth Street in Shelbyville, Ill. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Shelbyville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy.
