SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to the Barren River Sept. 18-19 for the fifth and final stop in the Mountain Division for a two day super tournament. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“The lake has been high for much of the summer so a lot of water releases have been made throughout the past few months,” said FLW Tour pro Keith Monson of Burgin, Ky., who has a win and a top-10 finish on the Barren River. “Anglers should be prepared to cover a lot of ground in this tournament. The fish are starting to move up and get in their fall pattern so most likely will be shallow. I expect them to be schooling in two to three feet of water; fall is my favorite time to fish the Barren.

“The early topwater bite should be good, I would use a buzzbait; crankbaits and rattletraps are other choice baits to use. The flooding earlier this year took away a lot of cover the fish once had, however there is still some isolated cover along the flats.”

Monson added that Tropical Storm Hermine could bring a lot of rain to the area and if that happens fish patterns could change and water levels would rise again.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Port Oliver Recreation Area & Ramp located at Highway 252 – Adjacent to Barren River Dam in Scottsville, Ky. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
