SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Barren River June 18 for the fourth of five stops in the Mountain Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“Barren River is the best place to fish in the state with the exception of Kentucky-Barkley lakes,” said Walmart FLW Tour pro Kevin Snider of Elizabethtown, Ky. “The water has been pretty high, but they are making releases so hopefully conditions will improve. The fish should be schooling this time of year, but it has been such an unusual year they may not be.

“I would try flipping outside of trees,” Snider continued. “Football-head jigs, crankbaits and big worms would be what I would use. It is still going to take over 20 pounds to win.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Port Oliver Recreation Area & Ramp located at 4200 Barren River Dam Road in Scottsville, Ky. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 1 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Walmart BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
