WINNECONNE, Wis. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Wolf River Chain of Lakes June 18 for the second of five stops in the Great Lakes Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“Pick your favorite style of fishing and then just go fishing,” said Walmart FLW Tour pro Tom Monsoor of La Crosse, Wis. “The Wolf River Chain of Lakes is such a great fishery, it doesn’t really matter how or where you fish; you’re going to catch fish. The smallmouth are as big as the largemouth, so the tournament could be won either way.

“If it is not too windy and anglers can get out on the big Lake Winnebago, they’ll win it using buzzbaits and swimming a jig for the smallies,” Monsoor continued. “Or someone might win it with slop fish, flipping a frog in those matted weeds for the largemouth. There are just a ton of 3- to 5-pound fish in the lake. It is going to take about 18 pounds to win.

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Winneconne Waterfront Park located at South First Street in Winneconne, Wis. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Walmart BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
