LAKEVIEW, Ohio – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Indian Lake June 18 for the second of five stops in the Buckeye Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“There are a lot of 1- to 1 1/2-pound fish in the lake,” said Walmart FLW Tour pro Dick Shaffer of Rockford, Ohio. “The key is going to be finding that 3- to 4-pound fish and backing it up with a 2- to 2 1/2-pounder. One big fish will go a long ways.

“The tournament is probably going to be won in the lily pads flipping a frog. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits will work on the rocks, but I don’t think you’ll find the kicker fish you need there,” added Shaffer. “It should take about 10 to 12 pounds to win.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Indian Lake State Park – Moundwood Ramp located at 12774 State Route 235 North in Lakeview, Ohio. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Walmart BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
