LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Ohio River at Tanners Creek July 23 for the third of five stops in the Buckeye Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
“It’s going to be a tough tournament,” said Walmart FLW pro Christian Romans of Carrollton, Ky. “Summer fishing on the river is always tough, but the heat that we have been having will make it even tougher. It feels like we are in the dog days of summer already. We have not had any cool nighttime temperatures to help lower water temperatures so they are going to be pretty warm, in the 80s to 90s, for this tournament.
“We haven’t had a lot of rain either so the current is going to be pretty slow,” Romans went on to say. “Anyone that can find some current may be able to find some good fish. Also look for those shad. There may be some bass chasing them as well.
“Crankbaits, small jigs and worms will work in the main river. I would stay shallow. It is only going to take about 10 pounds to win this tournament.”
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Lawrenceburg City Boat Ramp located on Highway 50 in Lawrenceburg, Ind. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
