The 2012 Walmart BFL season continues with two tournaments on Saturday, June 30. The Bama division holds its fourth tournament of the season on Neely Henry Lake and the Music City division blasts off on Old Hickory Lake. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in each event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.

When: Saturday, June 30, 2012

Where: Bama Division

Neely Henry Lake

Gadsden, Ala.

Notes: The largemouth bite on Neely Henry is very good right now. Water temperature is being reported in the mid 80-degree range and a lot of the bass are still hanging out around the grass beds. Anglers have reported finding fish out a little deeper in the afternoon. Tournament anglers will be using soft plastics, jigs and spinnerbaits in this event, and darker colors such as green pumpkin and black and blue are expected to produce solid results. The winning angler can expect to bring right around 16 to 17 pounds to the scales.

Where: Music City Division

Old Hickory Lake

Bulls Creek Access (Flippers)

200 Odoms Bend Road

Gallatin, Tenn.

Hosted by the Sumner County Convention & Visitors Bureau

Notes: Bass fishing on Old Hickory Lake is being reported as fair right now. Water temperature is hovering right around 80 degrees and water clarity is cloudy. The bass will be in their normal summer patterns by now, although anglers will still find some fish on the beds. Old Hickory offers many different areas and techniques to fish, so anglers should find success fishing both deep and flipping the grass beds. Popular baits thrown in this event will include Carolina rigs, crankbaits and jigs, and the winning weight will be near 15 pounds.

Walmart BFL overview

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2012 BFL All-American is being held May 17 – 19 on the Potomac River in National Harbor, Md. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
