The 2014 Walmart BFL season continues with two tournaments on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Arkie Division will take on Lake Dardanelle and the North Carolina Division will hit Lake Norman. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in each event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.

When: Saturday, Feb. 22

Where: Arkie Division

Notes: The bass fishing on Lake Dardanelle is reported as slow, but with some truly big fish mixed in. Winter patterns are expected to be the way to go with umbrella rigs, jerkbaits and jigs being important producers for much of the field. Though fish can be caught in deeper wintertime locations all over the lake, the warm water-discharge area around the nuclear plant on the lake should be busy on tournament day. The winner is expected to bring a five-bass limit weighing around 20 pounds to the scales.

Where: North Carolina Division

Lake Norman

Midway Marina

8693 Highway 150 E

Terrell, N.C.

Notes: The bass fishing on Lake Norman is expected to be good. With the lake still locked in a winter pattern, anglers will likely key in on the warm water near the two nuclear plants on the lake, the deeper cover, steep banks and points. While spotted bass will be important, the winning angler is expected to have at least a few largemouth in their limit. Umbrella rigs, jerkbaits, jigs, crankbaits and drop-shot rigs figure to get a lot of play among the competitors. The winning weight is expected to be around 17 pounds.

Walmart BFL overview

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2014 BFL All-American is being held June 5-7 on Wilson Lake in Florence, Ala. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
