Notes: The bass fishing on the Detroit River is expected to be excellent. Some anglers will fish in the river, but many will run into Lake Erie or St. Clair to fish for the plentiful smallmouth there. The bass are likely to be found on main-lake structure, gravel, weeds and around current. Topwater baits, swimbaits, tubes, drop-shot rigs, jigs, crankbaits and jerkbaits will be important pieces of the competitors’ arsenals. The winning weight is likely to be about 22 pounds.

When: Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 23-24

Piedmont Division

Kerr Lake

New Nutbush Park

115 Jack Wade Farm Road

Henderson, N.C.

Notes: The bass fishing on Kerr Lake is expected to be good. The bass will be in typical summer locations and could be caught around offshore structure, around docks or in shallow grass. Carolina-rigged soft plastics, jigs, topwater frogs, crankbaits, drop-shot rigs and topwater baits could all be effective. The winner is expected to bring  about 30 pounds to the scale over the course of the two-day event.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
