NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Parkway High School duo of Tyler Hilton and Caleb Crawford, both of Bossier City, brought a five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing 15 pounds, 13 ounces, to win the 2016 TBF/FLW High School Fishing Louisiana State Championship on Sibley Lake. The win earned the team trophies, the title of state champions and advanced the team to the High School Fishing Southern Conference championship on Cypress Lake in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 14-15.

The second-place team of Dustin Howell and Logan Anderson from Natchitoches Central High School caught the largest bass of the tournament, weighing 8 pounds even to win the Lew’s Big Bass Award.

Seventy-eight teams competed in the event, which launched from the Sibley Lake public ramp. The event was hosted by the City of Natchitoches and Northwestern State University.

The top seven teams on Sibley Lake that advanced to the Southern Conference championship were:

  1st:       Parkway High School, Bossier City, La. – Tyler Hilton and Caleb Crawford, five bass, 15-13

  2nd:      Natchitoches Central High School, Natchitoches, La. – Dustin Howell and Logan Anderson, five bass, 15-11

  3rd:       Haughton High School, Haughton, La. – Trent Hunt and Joshua Dupree, five bass, 14-8

  4th:       Alfred M. Barbe High School, Lake Charles, La. – Colby Robinson and Nick Nocilla, five bass, 14-4

  5th:       St. Frederick College Preparatory School, Monroe, La. – John Gault and Owen Gregg, four bass, 14-2

  6th:       Live Oak High School, Watson, La.  – Tyler Thames and Lauren Roe, five bass, 12-10

  7th:       Loyola College Prep, Shreveport, La. – Clayton Simmons and Preston Lonadier, five bass, 12-4

Rounding out the top 10 teams were:

  8th:       Pineville High School, Pineville, La. – Ashley Batey and Kyle Little, five bass, 11-15

  9th:       Live Oak High School, Watson, La.  – Josh Gautreaux and Wyatt Spring, five bass, 11-9

  10th:     Natchitoches Central High School, Natchitoches, La. – Brenton Lester and Landon Mitchell, five bass, 11-2

The 2016 Louisiana State High School Fishing Championship was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12. The top 10 percent from each TBF/FLW state championship field will advance to a High School Fishing conference championship along with the top three teams from each of the seven TBF/FLW High School Fishing Opens held this season. The top 10 percent of each conference championship field will then advance to the High School Fishing National Championship, coinciding with the TBF National Championship and an FLW Tour stop in the spring of 2017. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.

In addition to the High School Fishing National Championship, all High School Fishing anglers nationwide automatically qualify for the world’s largest high school bass tournament, the 2016 High School Fishing World Finals.
