FLW anglers battle today in hopes of surviving top-10 cut
SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER, La. – Under partly cloudy skies and relatively humid conditions, 350 anglers took the waters of the Red River today shortly after 6:30 a.m. with dreams of qualifying for the elite top-10 in the $500,000 Wal-Mart FLW Tour event at Shreveport. However, with today’s top-10 cut estimated at 23 pounds in the Pro Division and 16 pounds in the Co-Angler Division, plenty of anglers will have their work cut out for them.
As usual, the battle will not be easy to overcome. In addition to navigating forests of submerged timber as well as the tricky backwaters of the Red River, anglers have also reported numerous sightings of aquatic snakes – something sure to be a distraction for the faint of heart. However, with some of the best anglers in the world in attendance, the biggest hurdles for the field won’t likely be cold-blooded in nature. More accurately, they will come from the competitive spirit of the anglers themselves.
Today’s weigh-in is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Clark’s Marina located 20 miles southeast of Shreveport just off Highway 71.
