Co-angler champion to be crowned later today

GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – With 310 anglers already eliminated after the first two days of FLW tournament action, the remaining top 10 competitors from each of the pro and co-angler fields made their way past Kentucky Dam Marina shortly after 7:30 a.m. Friday with two separate goals in mind. For the pros, the game plan is to use today’s performance to position themselves for a run at the tournament title on Saturday. However, co-anglers must put everything on the line in today’s competition, as the tournament champion will be decided during today’s afternoon weigh-in.

Per tournament rules, the previous weight totals of both fields were erased entering Friday’s events. For the co-anglers, that simply means that whoever catches the most weight in today’s action will win the title as well as a guaranteed first-place prize of $15,000. Pro anglers, on the other hand, will have two days to compile as much weight as possible within the framework of a five-fish limit in both Friday’s and Saturday’s competition. The pro winner will ultimately cash out with a check for $100,000.

Currently, Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., is the top qualifier (and holds all subsequent tiebreakers) in the Pro Division after turning in a two-day catch of 37 pounds, 10 ounces. Meanwhile Randall Green of Braselton, Ga., leads all co-anglers into the finals after registering a total catch of 27 pounds, 6 ounces.

FLW action continues at today’s weigh-in, scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, located at 310 W. 5th St. in Benton, Ky. However, bass fishing fans unable to make it to today’s weigh-in in person can get real-time results on FLWOutdoors.com with FLW Live™.
