Losers’ Picks: Old Hickory Lake

March 5, 2004 • MLF • Archives

Welcome to the losers’ bracket of Pundits’ Picks. This is where we throw back into the water all the pundits who are culled from Punditville throughout the season. See, we still care about their picks and opinions, but they just don’t count.

Hot picks

The four losers like Clark Wendlandt (three picks) and Andy Morgan (two) at Old Hickory lake. Of all 10 losers and active pundits combined, Wendlandt took the most picks with six. Morgan, Dean Rojas and Dave Lefebre combined for four picks apiece. Randy Blaukat and Wesley Strader each earned three picks overall.

Previous tournament score (Atchafalaya Basin): 596

1) Clark Wendlandt. You can rest assured that Clark will be ready to catch them at Old Hickory. I look for him to have a great tournament.

2) Greg Hackney. Greg is one of the better flipping fishermen on tour, and I believe he will be ready to flip his way to a top finish.

3) Larry Nixon. After coming off the Atchafalaya Basin with an unexceptional showing, Larry will figure them out at Old Hickory.

4) David Dudley. David will be ready! He, like Nixon, didn’t have a real good showing in Louisiana. Look for a top finish.

5) Bobby Curtis. After a strong finish in the EverStart Central contest at Sam Rayburn last week, he has to be overflowing with confidence.

Previous tournament score: 562

1) Dan Morehead. He won Angler of the Year last year and disappeared. Actually, he is in 168th place in the points, but I know Morehead can catch them better than that. How about a come-from-nowhere victory at Old Hickory?

2) Chad Grigsby. He’s done well here before and is due for a great big Chad Grigsby splash in the FLW Tour waters. Come on Grigs, how about a can opener?

3) Eric Holt. Holt is an expert with the Eakins Jig and knows about cold-weather fishing on impoundments.

4) Shad Schenck. Smilin’ Shad Schenck has been steady and consistent, working his way into position for a win. Old Hickory could be the place.

5) Russ Moran. He’s from Tennessee and knows how to crankbait cold water impoundments like Old Hickory.

Previous tournament score: 360

1) Clark Wendlandt. He is a good jerkbait fisherman as well as a good all-around fisherman. The way this place is looking, it looks like this is going to be one of those tournaments.

2) Scott Martin. He is on a role and I think this lake will fit him well. He seems to be good at a lot of different ways of fishing.

3) Wesley Strader. You have to go with some Tennessee boys. A great pattern fisherman, Strader has done well here in the past and he has a lot of experience on Tennessee waters.

4) Andy Morgan. Of course, he’s known as one of the top flippers on the circuit. But when Morgan’s in Tennessee he becomes an all-around machine, especially when there are docks and bluffs around.

5) David Walker. He also grew up near these waters and understands them very well. He’s always near the top of things. Once this man breaks over the hump, he will be a winning machine.
