Gusting winds, overcast conditions dramatically change landscape for EverStart anglers during second day of competition

CLAYTON, N.Y. – What a difference a day makes. Unlike the balmy conditions anglers enjoyed on Wednesday, Thursday morning appeared to bring forth the full wrath of Mother Nature. With winds gusting into the 22-25 mph range, anglers were staring down some extraordinary difficult fishing conditions as they set out for the second day of the $185,000 EverStart competition on Lake Ontario shortly after 5:30 a.m.

As temperatures dipped in the mid 50s at takeoff, many anglers who had prepared to fish the open waters of Lake Ontario were immediately forced to reconsider that strategy. Consequently, the majority of the field will have to scramble today to locate prime fishing spots in rivers, bays and inlets protected by the wind. But with whitecaps visible virtually throughout the lake, it’s clear that anglers won’t have an easy time finding unencumbered fishing safe havens.

The conditions also don’t bode well for anglers who have to make up a lot of ground on the competition in order to qualify for today’s top-30 cut. Weight limits almost certainly will drop considerably, a factor that will give day-one leaders a distinct advantage throughout today’s competition.

Today’s weigh-in is scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m. at the French Creek Marina located at 250 Wahl Street in Clayton, N.Y.
