EverStart Series, Central Division, April 3-6

GROVE, Okla. – Anglers competing in the EverStart Central Division event on Grand Lake this week should have a variety of fish-catching patterns to choose from. With 46,000 acres of water and 1,300 miles of shoreline, Grand Lake can accommodate a host of different fishing techniques and myriad styles as well.

FLW Tour pro Marty Fourkiller, who used to live near the lake, says fishing will be at a premium during the first week of April. And if typical seasonal patterns hold up, says Fourkiller, Grand Lake bass should be in a pre-spawn to spawning stage.

“Grand Lake is a rocky impoundment,” says Fourkiller. “A big key that time of year is to find what kind of rock transition the fish are staging on. Sometimes it will be where bluff bedrock changes to chunk rock. Or it may be where chunk rock changes to pebble.”

Fourkiller says fish will also stage on secondary points leading into the backs of pockets. If the spawn is on, flat pockets and the backside of boat docks will be likely places to find beds.
