OAKLEY, Calif. – With 202 anglers already eliminated from EverStart competition, the remaining top 10 survivors in both the pro and co-angler fields departed Big Break Marina Saturday morning shortly after 6 a.m. in search of the ultimate prize on the California Delta – a tournament title.

But unlike yesterday, it appears as though anglers should have favorable weather conditions in today’s competition, as the National Weather Service is calling for clear skies and calm winds throughout the day.

As usual, competition should be intense as there is a lot at stake during today’s all-important finals. Factoring in contingency and bonus awards, the eventual winner of the Pro Division could pocket as much as $60,000 in cash and prizes – including a brand new, fully equipped Ranger Comanche boat. The winning co-angler, assuming the same sponsor criteria is met, could take home more than $30,000 in cash and prizes as well.

Anglers also will be in search of valuable year-end point totals. Specifically, the top-30 anglers in the Western Division standings at the end of today’s competition will qualify for the 2003 FLW Championship, slated to take place at Old Hickory Lake in Gallatin, Tenn., from Oct. 29-Nov. 1. The top-10 EverStart pros and co-anglers in the Western Division will also receive an automatic berth into the 2004 FLW Tour.

EverStart anglers receive 200 points for a first-place finish in any regular-season tournament, 199 points for a second-place finish, 198 for a third-place finish, and so on. At the conclusion of today’s regular season, the total year-end point totals will be added up to see who qualifies for the championship, the FLW Tour and who walks away with the 2003 EverStart Western Division Angler-of-the-Year award.

EverStart action on the California Delta concludes at today’s weigh-in, scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 4893 Lone Tree Way in Antioch, Calif.
