Day two under way in Northern Division action

TOWER, Minn. – Expect another big day from Northern Division anglers Thursday in the second half of opening-round EverStart Series competition at Lake Vermilion because conditions are almost exactly as beautiful as they were Wednesday. Perhaps it’s even a little warmer.

While tournament anglers took advantage of the spawning smallmouth population and caught a record 318 five-bass limits on day one, day two probably won’t produce quite as much weight since so many fishing holes were tapped the first day. Still, it’s going to be another productive day because this is an awesome fishery.

“I had my five (bass) by a quarter to 7 (o’clock),” fourth-place pro Kevin Vida of Clare, Mich., said Wednesday. “I’ve still got a lot of fish in other areas. If they’re not already picked off, I should have enough to make the cut.”

Both divisions will be cut to the top 20 anglers apiece based on a two-day combined weight following Thursday’s fishing action. Look for the pros to need around 24 or 25 pounds to make the cut and the co-anglers 15 to 18 pounds.

Thursday’s weigh-in begins at 3 p.m. at Fortune Bay Resort in Tower.
