EverStart Series Central Division, June 25-28

EverStart Series pro Larry Peacher of Bentley, La., knows how to fish the Red River. In fact, he won last year’s event out of Shreveport, La. This year, $239,000 will be at stake when the tournament launches from Natchitoches, La.

Peacher says late June is a great time on the river. The heavy spring rains have ended, and the water has usually become clear and stable. There is almost always some current, but it depends greatly on the locks that line the river.

Peacher believes that if there is enough current in the main river, the best option is to fish rock jetties with crankbaits in white, gray/white or chartreuse. He also expects the oxbows to hold some quality bass in their heavy cypress-tree structure. Peacher uses an Eakins black-and-blue jig when fishing the oxbow structure.

He also says to concentrate on the oxbows if the river should be muddy. They tend to stay much clearer during muddy periods, and the fishing is good.

Peacher predicts there will be a lot of action in lock 3 (because of its abundance of oxbows) as well as lock 4 and an area known as “the jungle.”
