EverStart anglers battle it out in effort to make Thursday’s all-important cut at Detroit River
TRENTON, Mich. – Under bright sunny skies and slightly cool conditions, more than 400 anglers from the United States and Canada made their way past Elizabeth Park Marina shortly after 6 a.m. as the second day of the $250,000 EverStart Series event on the Detroit River got under way. As the field headed out onto the open waters of the Detroit River, Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair, EverStart Northern Division anglers were clearly approaching Thursday’s action with one eye on the competition and another eye on qualifying for tomorrow’s semifinals.
Per tournament rules, by the end of today’s action only 20 competitors in each division will remain to fish another day.
Currently, John Sparkman of Taylor, Mich., leads all pros after landing a catch of 18 pounds, 1 ounce in yesterday’s competition, while Jason Howland of Albert Lea, Minn., leads the Co-angler Division with a catch of 17 pounds.
The stakes in today’s competition are high. With up to $61,900 in cash and prizes earmarked for the eventual winner of the Pro Division and another $27,800 in cash in prizes available for the co-angler champion, anglers won’t have much room for error if they hope to qualify for Friday’s semifinals.
EverStart action continues at today’s weigh-in, scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Park Marina, located at 200 Grosse Isle Parkway in Trenton, Mich.
