Top 10 anglers hit the water in search of EverStart title on Detroit River
TRENTON, Mich. – After three days of jockeying for position, the remaining top-10 anglers in both divisions hit the open waters of the Detroit River shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday morning with their pre-tournament goal – a lucrative tournament title – finally within their sights.
With partly cloudy skies, comfortable temperatures and a thumbnail crescent moon serving as backdrop for today’s events, anglers departed Elizabeth Park Marina for the final time this week. At stake, up to $62,000 in cash and prizes for a first-place finish in the Pro Division and another $28,000 in bounty for the top spot in the Co-angler Division.
Cecil Cole of Durand, Mich., led all pro anglers in yesterday’s competition after turning in a remarkable stringer weighing 17 pounds, 7 ounces. Meanwhile, 18-year-old amateur Andrew Lemle of Perrysburg, Ohio, finished atop the co-angler leaderboard in Friday’s competition after recording a whopping 18-pound, 4-ounce sack.
However, per tournament rules, all anglers’ weights were zeroed before the start of today’s competition. As a result, all remaining anglers will have an equal shot at the EverStart Northern Division title on the Detroit River.
EverStart action continues at today’s weigh-in, scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, located at 7555 Telegraph Road in Taylor, Mich.
