Bill Gift of Alix, Ark., won the Co-angler Division of the EverStart Series Central Division event on the Red River with a two-day total of 16 pounds even.
“I’m elated,” said Gift after spending the day with pro winner Scott Rook. “We just had a ball today. It was wet and cold, but I had my limit by 10:30 and that made me feel a little bit better.”
Gift used a 3/8-ounce black buzzbait to catch 11 pounds, 1 ounce to come from sixth place for the win.
Terry Retalic of Fayetteville, Ark., fished a combination of spinnerbaits and crankbaits to finish second with a two-day total of 15 pounds, 8 ounces.
Lamb takes third
Jay Lamb of Kansas City, Mo., finished third with a two-day total of 12 pounds, 9 ounces.
He fished Senkos to make the finals and switched to a top-water bait today.
But the wildest thing Lamb will likely remember about his finish was how one of his bass tried to eat the other in the weigh-in bag.
Sound to crazy to be true? Check out Lamb’s photo.
When he reached in to pull out a bass, he pulled out two: a smaller bass that was engulfed by a bigger bass. Even in a fish-eat-fish world, they still weighed the same.
Rest of the best
