DEL RIO, Texas – A light fog and cloudy skies hung over Stren Series Central Division finalists on Lake Amistad the morning of day four, with the sun expected to start peeking through by afternoon. The forecast is good for the fishing, too, as most of the top 10 pros expect to see stringers in excess of 30 pounds at today’s weigh-in.

Yesterday, the bite seemed to be down a tad, though according to No. 7 pro Kevin Lasyone, that was more an indicator of hole-sitting than the lake as a whole.

“I fished here for three days on the same spot – I just hadn’t expanded my area,” Lasyone said, adding that spots full of heavy fish are still abundant on Lake Amistad, and at least one guy today is going to find them.

Craig Dowling was one of two pros who surpassed the 30-pound mark yesterday, ending the day in the No. 2 spot with 31 pounds, 5 ounces. He too expects heavy bags to cross the stage today in the final day of competition.

“One of us is going to catch a 30-pound stringer, and whoever does will probably win,” Dowling said. “The weather hasn’t changed too much, but every day has been a little different out here. It will probably be the guy who figures out what he’s doing today who will bring in the big sack.”

Lasyone agrees. “I’m sure there will be some more 30-pound stringers,” he said. “On this lake, it’s possible that we could all bring them in.”

Dowling and leader David Mauldin continue to be the ones to watch, as either of them could break the world record for heaviest four-day weight today on Lake Amistad. The current record holder is Dean Rojas from a 2001 tournament on Florida’s Lake Toho, where he caught 108 pounds, 12 ounces over four days. With 87 pounds, 4 ounces of bass caught in three days, Mauldin enters today’s competition just 21 pounds, 9 ounces away from the record.

The final weigh-in begins at 4 p.m. at the Wal-Mart store located on Veterans Boulevard in Del Rio.
