Russell Cecil of Willis, Texas, a dynamo on the Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail in 2005 who racked up two wins, including the TTT Championship on Lake Conroe, expects some good fishing with plenty of pattern options when the Stren Series Central Division makes its second regular-season stop on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

Originally scheduled for Toledo Bend but moved because of extremely low water conditions, anglers should expect fairly low water at Sam Rayburn as well.

“Unless we get some major rains before the tournament, the lake will be low, but that makes the fishing good,” Cecil said. “The bass will be in all stages of the spawn. You’ll be able to catch them flipping stumps as well as dragging Carolina rigs around bare spots and the edges of grass, where bass will be moving back and forth from spawning areas.

“There will also be some fall-type pattern options because of the low water,” Cecil continued. “Anglers will be able to get back into creeks and channels and throw crankbaits around stumps to catch them.”

Cecil’s call: 35 pounds to make the top 20; 34 pounds to win.
