Look at the day-two standings sheet of the Rayovac FLW Series event on Lake Seminole and the name Tim Reneau from Del Rio, Texas will be at the top.

Del Rio, Texas? Isn’t that a little far from Bainbridge, Georgia?

Yes it is, 1050 miles to be exact. But Reneau drove all the way to Seminole for one reason: to flip grass, just like he does back home in Texas.

“This lake sets up a lot like Toledo Bend or Amistad in terms of the grass growth,” Reneau says. “When I saw this one on the schedule in May, I figured I would drive out here and fish the way I like to fish.”

Though Reneau has weighed in 15-1 and 20-7 over two days for a total of 35 pounds, 8 ounces, he says he is only getting about six bites per day.

“The grass is set up just the way I like it, but I have not caught near as many fish as I thought I would,” he adds. “Back home, when you get a bite in grass like that, there are usually a few more with it. Here, I get one bite…and that’s it. In practice I waypointed 20 spots where I got a bite and I have yet to catch a fish off any one of those spots. Each day I’ve just had to fish like I’m practicing – fishing new water. The last two days I’ve only had two keepers in my well at 11 o’clock. And that’s just about the time I start running brand new water and that’s when I get a few more quality bites. Just once I’d like to hit a school where I could catch several in a row, but that has not happened yet – maybe tomorrow.”

The Texan Reneau only leads by a pound and he has a handful of locals breathing down his neck going into the final day. Can he hold off the local contingent and make his 1050 mile drive pay off in a big way? Tomorrow will tell.

Jeter leads co-angler side

In the Co-angler Division, well-known local Greg Jeter has taken a sizeable lead with a two-day total of 34-6. Jeter brought in 19-3 today to put more than five pounds between him and second place.

Jeter is in his comfort zone at Seminole and will be hard to knock-off the hot seat tomorrow.

“I like the way the lake is fishing right now,” Jeter says. “I drew a great partner today who took me to some places I’m really familiar with and that helps a lot.”
